Our story

From globetrotters to master smokers

Founded in 1993 by the Atkins brothers, the company was born from a shared love of fine food, the ocean, and artisanal traditions. After traveling the world, they chose Gaspésie to establish a business dedicated to transforming the sea’s bounty into gourmet delicacies.

Over the years, Atkins & Frères has earned a reputation for excellence through artisanal products that showcase the richness of the Gaspesian sea. This dedication has been recognized with several prestigious honors:

A new chapter with Guillaume Thibault

In 2013, Guillaume Thibault, a bio-food engineer who fell in love with the region during an internship in Gaspésie, took the helm of the company, with the goal of building on the Atkins legacy while bringing a fresh vision to it.

Under his leadership, the company continues to thrive at the intersection of tradition, innovation, and sustainable marine resource management:

  • 2023 - Start of the Économusée project

  • 2026 - Introduction of ready-to-cook product range (redfish and halibut)

  • 2026 - Expansion of distribution into Ontario

  • 2026 - Launch and grand opening of the Économusée
